However, have you considered looking into the other relatively neglected social media platforms as a way to attract more traffic to your site?

If you have limited your advertising options to the above four sites you would do well to look into the social advertising option offered by StumbleUpon. Granted that Facebook might still drive more traffic but according to John Bryan, StumbleUpon’s VP of Business Development, their advertisers are quite happy with the results they get and in fact consider StumbleUpon as “one of the most effective tools in their arsenal to drive traffic to their sites.” Bryan said that the effectiveness of advertising using StumbleUpon is because it “is unique amongst web advertising platforms. On a daily basis, our users tell us what they are looking for and they trust us to help them discover the best of the Web. Just as we cut through the clutter of content on the Web for our users, we can give an advertiser access to a large community of pre-qualified users who have opted in to receive their content…Because our users rate every piece of content they like – and every piece they don’t – we can leverage their declared engagement to help advertisers effectively reach the right audience for their campaign. And because we have many millions of users participating in our ecosystem in a given month, we can leverage the patterns and trends that we see to help further the targeting and insights we provide to advertisers.” Cris Crum of WebProNews agree to this and said, “StumbleUpon has the potential to send some good traffic your way.”

So if you are looking for other ways to get targeted traffic to see your ads do consider StumbleUpon and see if it works for you.

The Social Media Smackdown started yesterday and gives celebrities only ten days to raise as much money as possible for their favorite charities using Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, and MySpace. The event is sponsored by PayPal, which has pledged to donate and additional amount to the charity that the celebrity team supports. Celebs joining the smackdown include:

Kyle Petty for Victory Junction
Corbin Bleu for Stand Up to Cancer
Ernie Johnson for Samaritan’s Feet
